Threadbare - Digital

£2.00

Beginning with an embroidered tweet informing his followers ‘I can hear 2 elderly ladies on the train talking very candidly and movingly about the last time they were in love’, an intimate eavesdropped conversation is related alongside erotic double sided embroideries that explore the ways technology intercedes and regulates our modern amorous relationships.

Recommended for mature readers.

Brookes has created something very unusual here. Every time I’ve read it, my response has been different, with new elements coming to the fore. Subtle, speculative and highly subjective, watching the literal unravelling of the figures while reading the poignant memories is an experience like no other comic I have read.

- Pete Redrup, The Quietus

Intricate and layered, and yet direct and immediate, Threadbare is an excellent entry point into the practice of Brookes…For those already familiar with his boundary-pushing approach it’s a reminder of the genuinely new directions in which he continues to take the form.

- Andy Oliver, Broken Frontier

This comic is a fascinating act of empathy, fully realized in a surprisingly expressive manner, given the medium.

- Rob Clough, High - Low
